Choosing the Right Camping Lantern

One of the most important pieces that you need after you pack the tent and sleeping bags is a led camping lantern. There are a lot of things to think about when choosing a camping lantern. There are three conventional types to choose from: battery operated, gas fueled, or liquid fueled. There is also the less conventional candle to choose from.

Battery operated camping lanterns are the safest choice of the four. Because there is no open flame, these are safe to have around pets and children. The battery fuels the light, and will keep it lit as long as the battery is functioning. The disadvantage here is the light itself. Battery operated lanterns are safe and quiet, but the light does not stay consistently bright as the battery is running low.

While battery operated camping lights are safe, they cannot run all night. Liquid fueled lanterns, on the other hand, can run all night. They also give off heat and therefore can help keep the campsite warm. The disadvantage here, other than the open flame, is that these can be rather noisy, and may not be the most appreciated by other campers.

Gas fueled led camping lanterns burn brightly and run on the same gas fuel used in camp stoves. While it would not be advised to attempt to run this all night, these are also convenient in the camp kitchen, as they are a bit heavier than a battery operated lantern. So they can sit on the table in a windy area and remain stable.

While it is not a conventional led camping light choice, one must also consider using candles. The key and obvious disadvantage here is that these are open flames. Because camping candles contain citronella; however, they offer the advantage of repelling insects when in use.

Choosing the right led camping lights is an important decision. While each of the above choices has its drawbacks, each has its advantages too. This is one of the most important pieces of equipment you can choose in outfitting your campsite, but these tips should help in making an informed choice.
